Reading Time: 2 minutesFor years I was very happy with Audible, until it was bought by Amazon, and then I felt the desire to move away because I didn’t want to feed a monopoly. It is through my desire to break free from Audible that I began to experiment with stripping DRM from books, first…

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn the current day and age moving from Amazon is not unappealing. I wish that Audible.com had never been bought by Amazon because I love Audible but hate what Amazon represents. It represents a monopolisation of the way people shop and by content around the world. Luckily in Switzerland we have Galaxus…

Reading Time: 2 minutesYesterday I shifted my data and setup from the Pi5 8gb to the Pi5 4gb with relative ease. I rsynched the data from one Pi to the other, brought up the docker containers, checked that they were working before shutting down the other Pi. I then swapped the 8gb Pi with the…

Reading Time: 2 minutesYesterday I was already out when I noticed that I forgot to restart the audiobookshelf instance on my server before the run. I could either go home, start the server, and run, or I could just go for my run and use the normal app instead. By normal app I mean using…

Reading Time: 2 minutesYesterday I switched from Ubuntu on the Pi5 to Raspberry Pi’s version of Debian. I experimented this because I had just moved the data from one file system to another so it seemed like the right time to switch from one OS to another. ## ExFat to Ext4 The first step was…

Reading Time: 2 minutesLast night I finished converting all my audiobooks to a DRM free format. In the process I learned that the m4b format renders much faster than mp3. I spent weeks trying to convert AAX files to mp3 and then by accident I agreed to convert files to m4b and it took the…

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs I write this I am waiting for my Apple Laptop to complete two tasks. The first task is to convert all my audible books from AAX to MP3 format. This is taking days to complete because I have over 500 books and my mac book pro is slow, due to it being…

Reading Time: 3 minutesI have been an audible member for years at this point and in that time I have “bought” hundreds of books. I write “bought” because I payed for a Platinum account for years and got credits and got the books with those credits. Over the years I have collected more books than…
