Years ago I noticed something. All of the games on iOS and Android that are promoted are crap. By this I mean that they have a very simple design. Complete a challenge, fail, watch an add, compete, win, watch an ad. Every single game makes you see an ad every few seconds.

These games aren’t especially good. They’re designed for infinite obsessive, absurd game play. Absurd because once you reach a level you fail again, and again, and again. The failure is intentional. It wants you to fail so that you pay to win. The pay to win model is flawed because in the end you fall into an absurd loop and you have to either pay to play, after watching dozens of ads, or pay money for boosts.

It’s worth considering a new rating system for AI generated content such as books. According to an article in The Atlantic AI written slop in the form of Daggermouth is best selling AI fiction and my first thought is that this is awful. It’s awful because AI can generate books far faster than we can read them, but it also means that we have a highly wasteful way of generating books.

For years I thought, “I want a smaller kettle so I can boil enough for a cup of tea or to make coffee, without throwing out two thirds to three quarters of the water I boiled. For years I thought that getting a smaller kettle was a waste of money, as they are often more expensive than larger ones. That is, until a certain person was elected for a second time and that nation showed real hatred towards the entire world.
