On Caribana's Noise Pollution and Geeky White Noise Solutions

Last night was the first night of the Caribana and for the most part it was quiet. It was quiet until 23:30 when one of the less competent sound gremlins got to the audio mixing desk and made it tremendously loud. So loud that I could hear the music clearly. If I knew the artist I would tell you who was playing.

Given that noise pollution is encouraged, from music festivals in summer, on a regular basis, despite all the hot air about them caring for the environment I have come up with a splendid solution.

Performance -- the LHC remix | Tim Exile | TEDxCERN

Taking sound samples from around CERN a flow machine was used to make music. It sounds like music you’d expect to hear at L’Usine in Geneva. It is interesting to see how the audience get up and start to dance.

How I played with Flixwagon at the Caribana.

Streaming video from mopile devices is the future and I burned through 90 megabytes of data in just two nights of music festival. As a result of this the third night required a different approach. I used Flixwagon. Flixwagon is in the same family as Qik and Bambuser but with many additional features. You can select the category of content, add a title and keywords to the stream before recording. The advantage of this service in contrast to the two other examples is that this one buffers the data stream in such a way that if you lose the connection you can still continue streaming once you find the data stream. In this particular situation I added the concert access point and went to film a number of concerts like Mademosielle K and Maroon 5. In both these cases I recorded the concert and during the break from one to the other I could let the software automatically push the content to the server. As a result I saved 2CHF per megabyte and uploaded about thirty megabytes within a short amount of time. Amie street, the new mp3.com

At one time a website called mp3.com existed to facilitate the sharing of music. I enjoyed this website and downloaded quite a lot of music from there. At the time the idea was to share music for free. It was in the days before myspace grew in popularity. The site is http://amiestreet.com/ There is one slight difference: All songs on Amie Street start FREE and can rise to 98 cents. We’re about discovery, not raiding your wallet. That’s perfect. If it’s good they make money, helping to fund the website and the artists and if it’s not that popular yet then lot’s of people getting it for free means more advertising. It’s an interesting idea

200 1990 to 2000 hits on my i-pod

I’ve spent the whole day working on a report which is due on Monday but since I have to send it by post I decided to complete it a few days earlier in order to send it off. I’m in the process of printing it off now and then I can have fun with other subjects. There’s fresh powder snow on the slopes so snowboarding could be quite a bit of fun, especially with all those unmarked runs which may have enough snow for the fun to continue. I downloaded a lot of the hits which were popular whilst I was riding on the bus to school when I was younger. there are quite a lot of memories in these songs. they’re the songs from my generation, and I am old enough to say that. Those 25yrs old are part of a different generation than those pre 25 years old. Over the next year, many of the people I know will join my generation ;)
