The Rise of the Long Form Reel

Recently while using Facebook and Instagram I noticed two things. The first is that photos are almost gone. The second is that videos went from being a few seconds each, to a few minutes each. This means that if you open the FB or IG apps and begin to watch a video you’re going to spend more time than you had expected to spend.

To put it another way, Facebook and Instagram have become more like television than web browsing activities. They have become more like radio, or television because they have become hot, rather than cool media. You scroll, and you watch, and you’re asked how many songs you recognise, or you’re getting a history lesson about priest holes in England (Where catholic priests hid under protestant reform) and more.

PowerWash Simulator on iOS

In the physical/real world it can be quite fun, but noisy to play with a kärscher cleaning device. It also wastes a lot of water. It is for this reason that PowerWash Simulator, availble in the iOS arcade store for “free” is interesting.

A few seasons, or even years ago I watched someone play this game on YouTube because YouTube recommended this type of content, which is part of my reason for dumping premium, and losing interest in videos recommended by YouTube.

Audiobookshelf and Driving

In an ideal world I would use Audiobookshelf when I’m driving tomorrow. In the real world I can’t, or at least shouldn’t. The reason for this is simple. There is no iOS app which, in turn, means that there is no car play app. Combined this means that if I want to use the app during a road trip I need to fiddle with the app’s website when one podcast ends and the next begins.
