It’s easy to say “You get awful recommendations because of the content you watch on Youtube”. I could say that very easily, but I don’t accept that premise because I took a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and I learned to think about deeper topics. I thought about media ownership, control and the theme of power without responsibility. It’s a book about the Press and Broadcasting in Britain but the concepts apply globally.
Today I could have been coughing and spluttering on the train like someone did last week, except that I would have worn a mask. Yesterday I had a fever and when I was sitting at the desk in the morning I felt awful so I went for a siesta that lasted for one hour and ten minutes. When I woke I felt much better but I still skipped my daily walk as I wanted to leave my energy resouces for my body to fight the virus.
On Sunday, less than a week ago I was on a train. I could hear someone coughing, and coughing. She sat in the seats a set of seats in front of the group of people I was with. I could hear the bronchial cough and I considered masking but didn’t and now I regret it.
Over the last two days I have had a sore throat and last night I didn’t sleep much so I chose to listen to podcasts with my eyes closed.
In theory I am waking at 0400 or earlier tomorrow to go and run in Vernier at 0530 but in practice that is now in doubt, not because I’m lazy but because I have a sore throat.I really hope that what I am fighting is just a short lived bug, nothing more.
For the first time in years I went to Geneva, and I spent time indoors, and in a city and within two days I’m fighting a bug.
Yesterday I wore the Suunto Peak 5 alongside the Apple Watch SE rather than the Apple Watch SE and Garmin device as I usually would. The reason for this is that I want to continue playing with Suunto devices, and I’d like to wean myself off of the Apple Watch, for at least a week or two.
In the process of doing this I was reminded that although the Apple watch is pivotal within the iOS app ecosystem Garmin is very well connected with other services.
Today I went to Geneva. I considered going by car, and then either going to do the Fort L’écluse via ferrata or dropping by decathlon. In the end I took the train and walked around Geneva. I went to Geneva to pick up the things for the Vernier run on Friday morning.
I chose to go by train, rather than by car, because by car it would have taken the same amount of time but used petrol and I would have paid for parking.
Yesterday I woke up feeling tired so I questioned whether I should cancel the Gruyère hike but chose not to. I felt more tired than usual and I couldn’t understand why until I checked my activities. I ran five kilometres on Friday, then again on Saturday, and then Sunday I went for a relatively short walk.
Originally my plan had been to rest oon Saturday but for some reason I didn’t listen to that desire.
Tomorrow I will be heading to Gruyère. I saw that if I take the train it will take two hours but if I take the car it will take one hour. I am currently toying with the idea of suggesting that I pick up some people in Nyon and others in Fourmi, before going to Gruyère.
There was a time when I would easily have done this. At that time I almost always took the car because that was the default habit.
This morning I got up at 4am to go for a run with strangers in Nyon. The meeting time was 05:10 and the run/jog/walk began at 05:30. Before the run Activ Fitness gave us a warm up workout that I followed half-heartedly. I had already walked 3km so my body was warm. I now needed to remain warm before the run itself.
For some people the idea of getting up at 4am to run at 0530 is an absurd one.
Yesterday the town of Nyon posted about the Wake Up and Run event that is taking place tomorrow so I felt like signing up until I saw that it costs 38 CHF, and then I changed my mind, temporarily. Eventually I thought “This is in Nyon so it’s local, so I could meet local people”. I also thought “well, if it includes breakfast and a t-shirt then it could be worthwhile after all.
