A Social Run and a Social Ride with Décathlon and Pace Society in Vaud

More often than not I need to decide between different runs, and different rides. I rarely get an opportunity for both. At first I thought that the run, and the ride would be simultaneous so I was ready to make a decision eventually.

Within a day or two of the event I noticed that they were offset. The run was at 07_50 for an 8am run, and the ride was planned for 09:30. Distance wasn’t an issue. 5km for the run and 19km for the ride, so nice, short, and relaxed.

I like the idea of combining both of these sports because the run, at 5km is quite relaxed, and the ride, at 19km is short. By combining them you get to enjoy two types of sports in a single event, without overdoing it.

Last week I ran 7km with one group, and then I cycled 80km with a second group and, luckily for me, someone was struggling to keep up with the group and I slowed down. In so doing I provided a social ride for the person that was trying to keep up, whilst taking the opportunity not to exhaust myself. 7km is a normal social run, but it still burns energy.

One nice aspect of running with Décathlon is that you have the opportunity to test various snacks for “free”, as long as you run or cycle with the group, so you’re likely to be fuelled enough to cope well with a run or bike ride.

With social rides, and runs, I have run out of energy due to a lack of fuel during the ride. Within the Décathlon context you can fuel before, during, if you take a bar with you, and after, once you get back. They also had croissants this time.

To some it might seem like nothing but I appreciate being able to do two activities at once. I enjoy that I can take both opportunities, without having to choose, and without risking exhaustion.

I look forward to this combination more often in the near future.
