The Rational Rest Day

Page content

Tomorrow there is an event in Cossonay that could easily involve cycling fourty kilometres to get there, and cycling whilst there, and then cycling back. The low estimate would be an eighty kilometre day and the high estimate would be at least a century.

I was looking at the train, from Nyon to Cossonay, but the connection in Renens is four minutes. Plenty of time, in theory to swap from one track to the other, but with sluggish people that seems less likely.

The second option is to ride from Morges to Cossonay but that requires a 10 CHF or more ticket, and the start time is around the same.

The third and more interesting solution is simply to cycle from Nyon to Cossonay, trying to pass by Vufflens-Le-Chateau before heading up to Cossonay. It involved a 06:30 start I think, to give time in case. It’s 40km at an average of 20km/h despite 400m of climbing.

Reading Cossonay as Colovray

In reality the problem is that I read Cossonay as Colovray. Colovray is 3km away and Cossonay is 40km away. I know that the train is much simpler.

The Morges Option

I suspect that the Morges option, with the train from Nyon to Morges, is the most interesting option. It’s the one that has us cycling by the Chateau de Vufflens, and then on towards Cossonay. It’s just 20km, and best of all it offers the most flexibility for trains.

The Regio Express (RE33) is my natural choice as they are usually more suited to bikes.

The Irrational Part

I’m perfectly happy to run alone. I already have more events to participate in than I can go to. Twice within the last week I have had a late dinner due to participating in a hike on Sunday, and a bike ride yesterday- In light of this I should be content to stay home tonight, have a good meal, an early night, ready for tomorrow.

Taking a rest day is the rational think to do. I have 23 hours of ‘recovery’ as I write this.
