The Ochsner Sport Runday Monday Signy Run
For several weeks I have run with the Ochsner Sport Runday Monday Signy group. Last night the run began at the Abériaux parking before heading towards Gland and skimming the Domaine Impérial before then heading back through some woods towards the parking, before then stopping by a plage for a swim and apéro, before heading home and sleeping.
The course was around 8.8 kilometres long going along the woods and a water fountain where we could get fresh water, before running along the road, turning left, and then right, and then into the woods, before making our way towards the edge of the woods and crossing towards the Aérodrome de Prangins, before running along, and then turning back towards the same woods, and making our way back to the water fountain. We then picked up swimming stuff and went to the plage.
We posed in the water for a photo, and then some swam before apéro and conversation by the lake.
It’s worth noting that water fountains, in hot weather become key aspects of runs and bike rides because they provide people with the opportunity to refill water bottles, but also for people to soak their heads, their hats, their clothes and more to ensure that fresh water cools us down properly.
I didn’t notice myself suffering with the heat but I don’t know whether this is because I hydrated for an hour before the run, because I sleep in a room that is at 29°c or because the air wasn’t actually that warm. According to the watch, and Strava it was 33°c and felt like 34°c. It’s worth noting that the pace for my morning solo run, and then the afternoon social run was slow and conversational, rather than fast.
By planning a run by a fountain, and through wooded areas near a stream you get the cooling effect from the trees and the stream, and splashing water on yourself. You also get the cooling effect of the breeze.
I suspect that I cope with the heat because I’m living in 28°c heat until Octobre or November, due to Minergie being so ill suited to summer. Outside, it’s 20°c at night. Indoors it’s 28-29°c.
It is nice to have a group to run with, and that two or three run groups end with a swim, especially during the canicule. It’s a way of cooling down quickly in the canicule.
