Golden Hour Walk

Page content

When it is rainy and overcast going for a walk at sunset is not rational. On a sparsely cloudy day this makes a lot of sense. On a day where the sun is shining, to go for a walk at sunset, is an opportunity to see golden hour colours. Last night that’s what I did.

It is unusual for me to take so many pictures but the light was great. It’s just a shame that I was in an urban landscape rather than a natural one. We see power lines and cars parked. We see traffic. I tried to avoid having too much traffic iin shots but to do that I had to climb on one thing or another. I had to hold the camera up above my head, to get certain things out of shot.

On a rainy day you would go from daylight, to night, and light simply fades into darkness. The transition is not spectacular. That’s why walking at sunset on a rainy day felt absurd, especially on a day when a group ride was possible.

And Finally

Falling into a walking routine is easy. That’s why it is good to walk at a variety of times of day, as well as in a variety of weather. If we only walk in good weather, and if we only walk at a specific time of day, then we miss seeing sights that we enjoy. I enjoyed the sunset because usually I’m walking where the view to the sky is blocked, or in the wrong direction, away from sunset.

I was walking away from sunset last night, but I still saw the beauty, thanks to it being across the entire sky. I turned around constantly, to see if it was at the maximum, of colour saturation. I would have taken more photos, if cars weren’t getting in the way.
