Autumn Weather and Flexibility

Page content

With Autumn comes a change in weather. The days get shorter and the temperatures drop. Clouds come more often, and stick around. The result is that events that are scheduled are cancelled.

Today the weather was good, but the event is scheduled for tomorrow. In a situation such as this I would consider moving the event forward by one day, to take advantage of the good weather. It is a shame to stick to a day, when a shift is possible.

I should have taken my shower, and put on my cycling stuff, and gone for a bike ride this morning. I should have taken advantage that the weather was good this morning, even with wet roads. As I write this the sun is shining.

Accountability and Conviviality

The reason for which a group cycle is good is that we’re accountable and motivated by the group, rather than ourselves. We get up at a set time. We ride with that group, and then we have breakfast, with the morning rides. If I had gone for a solo ride this morning it would have been in solitude. For that I can wake when the sun is up and the air is warmer.

Waking at the crack of dawn, to go for a ride, is cold and unpleasant. If you wait for sunrise, and then go, the air has warmed up, and you can see more. On a morning such as today the nice sunrise colours are hidden by clouds.

And Finally

Sometimes, when an event is cancelled, I am sad. In this situation I am not sad. I am not sad not to get up at 05:30 for a bike ride. I am not sad not to ride in the cold Autumn dawn. Given that the group is usually quite small, I am not sad that I cannot see the usual people. We always have next week. We also have Saturday.

I might float the idea of a Sunday bike ride and plan the route after finishing this blog post.
