Watching Broadcast Television

Recently the bottom Swisscom TV bracket tripled in price from 5 CHF per month to 15 CHF per month. This is a huge leap in cost per month. At first I spent a few minutes to see if I could abort the Swisscom TV part of the contract but I couldn’t so I adapted. Dormant ‘Receiver’ For months the Swisscom TV “receiver” was sitting in a drawer doing nothing but because of the huge hike in price I put it back into service and I feel that the experience has been improved since I last played with it.

Curious about the Via Francigena

Twice I walked on hikes that had portions of the Francigena and now I am curious to try this hiking trail. It goes from Cantebury to Rome but I don’t think I would do the first half, or if I did I could easily pop home when around Montreux. The Francigena is a hiking trail that goes from England to Rome, passing through several European countries, of which Switzerland is one.

Deepest Airbnb Video

Recently I watched a video of two people going to sleep 1375 feet (about 400 meters deep) down in a cave that had once been a mine. As they descend they go from daylight to tunnel shafts, to walking in darkness until they get to places where they need to go along cables, with a big drop beneath, wade through water along a pipe, walk by a pump that provides the airbnb place with power.

Walking from Bex to Aigle

Yesterday I caught a train from Nyon to Bex without the need to change from one train to another. In the process I had an opportunity to re-acclimate myself to being surrounded by others, indoors, without a mask. Luckily the wagon wasn’t too crowded so I wasn’t overcome with the desire to mask. When I saw that there was a hike from Bex to Aigle I didn’t expect it to be as nice as it was.

A Reminder of Why I Stopped Using the Garmin Watch

Yesterday I was reminded of why I stopped wearing the Garmin watch, replacing it with Casio watches instead. It’s because Garmin, Suunto and Xiaomi don’t count walking as real sport. Imagine, you’re wearing a watch twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, every day, and charging it every month with the Garmin Instinct, and every few days with the other devices, and you see the absurdity of certain trackers.

Lost Trips with the Citroën App

I have had a Citroën car for two years and I find it’s great for road trips but crap for maneuvering due to the gear system. I also find that the app is a frustrating app to use. At least twice I have lost my trip data. The first time because I think I used “don’t share real e-mail address so I couldn’t recover the password when I forgot it and then again last night because I, or iOS removed the log files.

Sun Bleached and Worn Out

Yesterday during my walk I bought a new clam shell cap. It’s the type of cap that you can take off, fold and put in a pocket. The one I had before this one was used daily for years, and eventually became bleached by the sun and sweat. It went from dark grey to light grey. What I really appreciate is that aside from the colour fading it’s fine. Trail Glove 7 Today I noticed that my second pair of Trail Glove 7 are worn out.

urban walks

I have walked in London, Paris, Rome, Geneva, Lausanne Florence and other cities for many hours at a time. I would often walk in London until I got too tired to continue, and then I would catch the tube back to somewhere I knew, and then I’d walk some more. I did the same in Rome and Paris. When you take the tube, or the Metro in Paris or Rome then it’s easy not to know how close places are.

PhotoPrism On a Pi Continued

After more than a week of working twenty four hours a day my Raspberry Pi 4 finally indexed over 120,000 videos and photos. The first thing that I notice is that Photoprism feels slower now. It takes several seconds and it feels as if it is suffering. Overloaded with 120,000 Files The Raspberry Pi 4 and PhotoPrism were not designed to have so many photos at once. It tells me that 63,000 files are videos, which I will remove from this archive eventually.
