The KISS Chronological Photo Library
I am in the final stretch of consolidation between Immich and my main library but I hit a snag. I have 197 GB of files in the Immich library to reconcile with 390 GB of images in my main library. Due to the Immich folder structure I can’t run a simple rsync command to combine the two.
Option A with Jdupes Alone
The first option is to ask jdupes to check the main library with the uploads folder. The issue with this is that it can’t be done on the Pi due to RAM and other issues.
Option B with Exiftool
Tell exiftool to get the photos in the Immich uploads folder organised into a hierarchical structure by year, month day and then rsync the files from the main library into this folder, and then run jdupes to clean up the duplicates that were not noticed by rsync.
Conclusive Proof
I feel frustrated, but I also feel that this perfectly illustrates why you want a main photo library that Photoprism and Immich can see, and index, but not change. It also illustrates why syncing to Photoprism, and Immich is fine, but that the kDrive files, in my case are the source of truth.
And finally the kDrive iPhone and Android app is the KISS solution. It keeps it sleek and simple. You take a photo, it’s backed up to their cloud, and from there to your local hard drive, and from there, with an rsync job it can be aded to the photo libraries that Immich and Photoprism can see and ingest from, but not alter.
