It’s an easy way of finding people to do things with, every single weekend. It means that rather than sitting in bars, listening to people talk, hoping for a fun activity, that is not drinking, to be mentioned, you can find a group to do things with.

The flipside to this is that you meet 12-25 people per activity. Sometimes you will meet the same people again, more than once, but more often than not you meet a new group each time.

If you’re an extrovert that’s great, because you have a dozen to two dozen people to meet each weekend day. If you’re an introvert this isolates you. As an introvert you are not the best story teller, you are not the most outgoing, you are not the most compelling.

Silence and Nature

As an introvert you’re likely to walk in solitude, until you have a short conversation, before more silence. The irony is that on walks I often enjoy that silence and think "I should walk these routes, solo."

If I am not talking, then I could be solo. Solitary walks can be a great experience. I have had years of solitude. I need to do group things now.

Weather

Usually, if the weather is bad during the week, people are less likely to commit to a weekend of hiking and other sports. When the weather is bad, people aren’t filled with escapist fantasies. When the weather is good, they are.

Trains, Buses, and Lists

Some of these activities require two trains, and then a bus or two. Chasseral did, and so does Jaun. At some point these activities require quite a bit of time to be spent in trains and buses.

I think that lists are great, because if you’re on the list, you’re going, but if you’re not on the list you’re waiting. I also don’t like that in some cases the cut off time is Wednesday night at 22:00.

And Finally

I don’t think I am tired of group activities. I just want to find a steady group of people to do things with. In my experience having a stable scuba diving group was good, having a steady climbing group was good, having a steady hiking group was good.

It’s Tuesday. By Thursday this weekend’s activities will be clearer.

Reading Time: 2 minutesI find that GoSocial and Meetup are great social networks.
