If I go by train it will require me to walk 20 minutes, and then change train three times. If I go by car it will be faster, but I will park, and then take a train to the start of the hike. <\/p>\n<p>Usually I would automatically take the train in this situation. It\u2019s quick, it\u2019s simple, and I could spend more time with the group. In this situation I am tempted to take the car. My reason for taking the car is that it\u2019s electric and I want to experiment with a longer drive than usual. <\/p>\n<p>Normally I drive two kilometres to the shops, or fourty kilometres per journey. This time I would drive one hundred and fourty kilometres so I would be experimenting with range. When fully charged the car has a range of 210 kilometres or so, depending on gradient and driving style. <\/p>\n<p>I expect to have enough range not to need to charge, but if I experiment with charging then it will help put my mind at ease for longer road journeys. I trust the car\u2019s range estimation, but I don\u2019t trust that I will find a charger if, and when the battery is low. That\u2019s why this test is good. If I can charge, then that\u2019s great, but it is not critical if I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, when we no longer have to ask \u201cDoes this village have a charging station we will gain freedom.
